It had been sixty-five years since my last hospital visit and a 3:00 AM ambulance ride was not on my agenda.
I have often noted that God has had an amazing sense of humor in the direction of my life over the decades. I began wondering how a "stent placement" in my heart on Friday, January 13th would play out in my life. I slowly accepted my doctor’s account of “how sometimes old people’s hearts just get old” and let that answer suffice for the best medical advice I would receive in the month of January.
My thirty-hour hospital “heart attack “outing opened my mind to the three constant questions I continually ask myself.
What do I have to do?
What do I get to do?
What do I want to do?
Answers didn’t come immediately. My mind began sifting through the things I have done and the things that I have left undone as I searched my mind for a clue of who I might be in the next season of my journey. I reflected on where my journey has already brought me. I reflected on my choice of naming my book, My Story Isn’t Over and pondered how prophetic that choice was.
And now, after a medical procedure for my heart and recently accepting the role as Volunteer White Water paint project director, and my quest to celebrate the vision of the book with those whose stories I was blessed to tell have already played into answering my own question of what life might be beyond 75!
So I am thankful. Thankful that my story isn’t over. I await how God can use this opportunity once again to help me remember the surprising and wonderful life I have already lived and to remember the life to which I am still called.
